Introduction:
While intuitively sensible and obviously desirable, continuing professional development (CPD) tends to focus on acquisition of knowledge rather than skills. This symposium summarizes evidence and suggests ways of facilitating interprofessional cooperation and reinforcing it in practice through CPD. The symposium has the expertise of a physician, pharmacist and chair of the CPD committee of Canadian physicians.
Programme:
Learning objectives:
1. Demonstration that interprofessional collaboration; leads to positive health care outcomes.
2. Identify some of the hurdles in implementing this.
3. Recognition that people learn in different ways and that coaching is an important component of CPD.
Take home messages:
Pharmacists and physicians working together benefits the health service and leads to more pharmacist and physician satisfaction.
