Introduction:
Achieving global equity in health requires pharmacy to move beyond isolated efforts toward equity-driven leadership that connects across science and education with humanitarian action, sustainability and global health systems. The FIPWiSE Collaboration for Equity: Re-imagining Leadership and Partnerships in Pharmacy Science and Education session examines how leadership structures, partnerships and career pathways within pharmacy shape whose knowledge, priorities and contributions influence “One Health” outcomes.
This FIPWiSE-led session positions pharmacy science and education to “One Health” through their role in connecting people, medicines and communities. The session will focus on practical leadership and structural challenges that limit equitable participation and impact, including persistent gender gaps in academic and research leadership, inequities in global partnerships and limited access to mentorship and sponsorship across career stages.
Drawing on examples from across pharmacy science and education, this session will explore how equity-driven leadership and inclusive collaboration can be operationalised within institutions and professional networks. Participants will gain clarity on how mentorship, sponsorship and cross-sector partnerships can strengthen leadership pathways and support more equitable, sustainable contributions to global health.
Programme:
Learning objectives:
1. Explain how equity-driven leadership structures within pharmacy science and education influence whose knowledge is prioritised and contributions shape humanitarian action, sustainability and global health systems within a “One Health” framework.
2. Identify structural and leadership challenges within pharmacy science and education, including partnership and career pathway barriers, that limit equitable participation impact across global contexts.
3. Apply principles of mentorship, sponsorship and cross-sector collaboration to strengthen leadership pathways that connect people, medicines and communities within equitable pharmacy systems.
Take home messages:
Equity in global health is shaped by leadership structures and career pathways within pharmacy science and education, which determine whose knowledge, priorities and contributions influence “One Health” outcomes.
Pharmacy science and education play a central role in connecting people, medicines and communities and therefore must be intentionally aligned with humanitarian action, sustainability and global health systems.
Mentorship, sponsorship and cross-sector partnerships are practical mechanisms for strengthening equitable leadership pathways and building more inclusive, resilient global pharmacy systems.
