Overview MOWE-0401 - From dispensing to treatment: The Italian pharmacy as a pillar of the national health system In recent years, Italy has experienced a profound transformation in the role of community pharmacies, moving from a place of drug dispensing to a fully-fledged community healthcare facility integrated into the NHS. This change is the result of a gradual process resulted in the formal recognition of the Law 182/2025 and the 2026 Budget Law, which have consolidated the public health role of our pharmacies. Italy represents an interesting case for all those countries seeking to strengthen access to care and make their NHS more resilient by integrating pharmacists into primary care. With this presentation, we aim to: • Present our model of pharmacy integration into a universal healthcare system • Share practices and innovative services that work locally • Discuss the difficulties encountered in the transition from a product-centered to a patient-centered model • Offer insights that can be adapted to different contexts The presentation will address: • Regulatory evolution: how we moved to healthcare integration, what legislative framework made it possible, and what has changed for pharmacists, and for patient access to care. • The services that make a difference: prevention, screening, disease management, vaccinations: what we offer citizens every day in pharmacies. • The challenges still open: Ongoing staff training, fair compensation models and outcome measurement: we also discuss what still is not working as we would like, the mechanisms that work, and those that still need improvement. Our model demonstrates that it is possible to formally integrate pharmacies into public health strategies without losing what makes them unique: proximity, public trust, and continuity of care. Our gradual process offers concrete insights for those facing an aging population, a shortage of healthcare professionals, and the growing demand for primary care services. We propose an experience to learn from. MOWE-0402 – Lessons for global pharmacy from fragile health systems: Insights from Lebanon’s pharmacy practice and education research The FIP 2026 strategy emphasises advancing pharmacy practice through people-centered care, workforce development, leadership, and policy engagement across diverse health-system contexts. Evidence generated by INSPECT-LBoperating within a fragile health system in a developing country, is particularly valuable for global learning. This session will present INSPECT-LB’s pioneering pharmacy research initiative, focusing on population and pharmacists’ interactions, evolving pharmacy practice modalities, and linkages with pharmacy education. To achieve these objectives, a structured synthesis of INSPECT-LB pharmacy practice research published in 2025 will be conducted, aligned with FIP strategic pillars. Evidence will be analysed sequentially by identifying key projects, describing practice challenges across settings, and mapping findings to relevant global competency frameworks. The results will be presented during the session by four speakers, all INSPECT-LB members, representing diverse practice settings and countries.
