Organised by the FIP Humanitarian Resilience Advisory Group in collaboration with the FIP Early Career Pharmaceutical Group, the FIP Industrial Pharmacy Section and the FIP New Generation of Pharmaceutical Scientists Special Interest Group Chair(s) Mr Rob Moss, Vice President, International Pharmaceutical Federation, Netherlands Introduction: As climate change intensifies, new waves of disasters and displacement call for pharmacy to unite practice, education, and science to protect “One Health”. This session connects humanitarian, industrial, scientific, and early-career perspectives—from greener manufacturing and supply chains to education that embeds climate literacy and practice that builds resilience in fragile communities. Through real-world case experiences and applied research, participants will explore how pharmacists can make sustainability a daily act of care, ensuring equitable access to medicines while safeguarding the planet. Programme:
11:00 – 11:10 Introduction by the chairs
11:10 – 11:30 From Hurricanes to Heatwaves: Humanitarian Pharmacy in Climate Emergencies
Ms Tamara Begin, Canadian Red Cross, Canada
11:30 – 11:50 Designing Climate-Resilient Health Systems: Science and Strategy from Pacific Islands
Dr Hyun Kim, Boston Children’s Hospital, USA
11:50 – 12:20 Panel Discussion with chairs, speakers and additional panellists
12:20 – 12:30 Closing remarks by the chairs
Learning objectives: 1. Understand how humanitarian pharmacy strengthens access to medicines and patient care during climate-driven disasters and displacement. 2. Examine scientific and policy approaches for designing climate-resilient health systems through Pacific research and adaptation strategies. 3. Integrate lessons from humanitarian, scientific, industrial, and educational perspectives to advance “One Health” resilience and sustainable pharmacy practice worldwide. Take home messages: Climate change is redefining health needs; pharmacists are vital in strengthening preparedness, response, and long-term adaptation. Humanitarian practice shows how resilience, access, and equity must begin before disaster strikes. Science and innovation enable climate-resilient systems, from sustainable manufacturing to greener supply chains. Education must embed climate literacy and “One Health” thinking across pharmacy training. Collaboration across practice, research, and industry positions pharmacy as a global force for planetary health.
