Introduction:
This session explores how education and mentorship can fight clinical inertia and nurture proactivity. Clinical inertia, the failure to initiate or adjust therapy when clinically indicated, remains a persistent barrier to optimal patient outcomes. Overcoming this challenge requires more than technical knowledge; it demands strong therapeutic relationships, compassionate communication, and decision-making that addresses uncertainty.
This session will examine how educational strategies can prepare future pharmacists to engage proactively with patients, foster trust, and navigate complex clinical scenarios. Through conceptual framing and interactive case discussions, participants will explore approaches that link decision-making to combating clinical inertia while promoting patient-centred care.
Programme:
Learning objectives:
1. Understand the importance of building therapeutic relationship with our patients, to build trust and foster patient healthcare plan to achieve outcomes.
2. Explore practical examples of patients that need therapeutic guidance from a mentor and friend in the healthcare system.
3. Identify educational strategies and competencies that prepare future pharmacists to build therapeutic relationships and make patient-centred decisions amid uncertainty.
Take home messages:
Pharmacists play a vital role in saving lives fighting clinical inertia by building strong therapeutic relationship with patients.
