Overview MOTU-0301 - Competency in public health & competency in clinical research for pharmacists This session will explore how Türkiye’s dynamic economic landscape has influenced pharmacy practice, medicine pricing and the pharmacy workforce. Mr. İrfan Demirci, president of the Turkish Pharmacists’ Association, will present an overview of the changing financial environment and its reflection on national pharmaceutical policies, with a focus on the resulting impact on community pharmacies and pharmacists’ working conditions. Türkiye’s pharmacies play a critical role in ensuring health service continuity. With citizens visiting physicians an average of 12 times per year, and approximately 504 million prescriptions dispensed across 31,000 pharmacies in 2025 alone, pharmacists are a primary access point for care. This wide reach underlines the importance of sustained investment in pharmacy services and supportive policy frameworks. The session will also highlight key developments in the pharmacy workforce. The average number of pharmacists per pharmacy has risen to 1.3, influenced by the ongoing implementation of the “second pharmacist” regulation, which requires additional staffing in certain pharmacy settings. While aimed at improving service quality, this policy introduces new considerations for workforce planning and financial sustainability. Drawing on national data and real-world examples, the presentation will discuss how the profession is adapting to economic pressures while maintaining its vital role in public health. It will also consider the importance of protecting and empowering the pharmacy workforce to ensure service continuity and equitable access to medicines. MOTU-0302 – Navigating economic change and workforce evolution in Türkiye Advanced Pharmacy Australia (AdPha) is a proud innovator of knowledge networks for pharmacy in Australia which provide a supportive ecosystem that wraps around each individual pharmacist and technician member. The ecosystem has four key components: recognising expertise, understanding the profession, anticipating future challenges, and promoting evidence-based practice evolution. This session will highlight key initatives developed by AdPha to achieve this aim. Firstly, a programme delivered by the Australian and New Zealand College of Advanced Pharmacy (ANZCAP) which addresses the need for formal recognition of pharmaceutical expertise and specialisation, by establishing clear career progression pathways for pharmacists across all practice settings through recognition levels. Secondly, an overview of insights into the advanced pharmacy workforce and its contribution to the healthcare system, to support stronger advocacy and improved workforce planning. The session will also describe a strategic forecasting initiative which offers insight into emerging trends and challenges facing the profession. By synthesising expert perspectives from across Australia's pharmacy landscape, the forecast empowers practitioners to anticipate and prepare for future developments, helping align individual career trajectories with broader professional trends. Finally, the session will present the success of education and specialty practice programmes which support skills development, growth in clinical knowledge, connection and inspiration in the short and medium term, supported by a digital community platform.
